The Timber Trail

The Timber Trail is part of the New Zealand Cycle Way and is one of our many options of places to take you when you come on our tour of the Central North Island.

Timber Trail

In the Central North Island we are absolutely Spoilt when it comes to day long rides. Over the past 10 years trails in the area has really been booming with development. The 83km long Timber Trail officially completed in 2013 and takes you on the old path of a railway line. With sections of the trail on old tram way the gradient is friendly and it passes over 35 bridges with one of the longest cycle way swing bridges in the country. This trail boasts incredible forest, lots of BIG swingbridges, and different sections to make up your own personalized day ride.

The trail passes through amazing old podocarp forest so you are passing by giant hard woods like the Rimu, Totara, Miro, Matai, just to name a few. And with the difficulty being around grade 2-3 you can really enjoy your surroundings. The Pureora Forest is located on the Western side of Lake TaupoO on our Central North Island MTB Tour we have the option of checking this trail out on day 3 or day 5 of the tour. With our small groups and great guide to guest ratio there is quite often the chance to split the group to tailor the days to what people really want to do and see. Sometimes people are blown away by big views, the native forest, or challenge of the ride. Really it's about choosing the best ride for the day/group.
